OTHER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
One Million Degrees has an ongoing need for volunteers. Whether it’s helping scholars develop their networking skills at our annual “It’s Who You Know” Speed Networking or committing to a longer-term relationship—perhaps as a coach— we welcome all levels of participation. Sign up to volunteer today.
For any questions or more information about each opportunity, contact Xavier Mann at [email protected]
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDE:
Coach a Scholar
Serve as a sounding board, thought partner, and cheerleader for highly-motivated community college students looking for guidance in their academic, personal, and professional journeys and assist in creating their career portfolio, including a polished resume, cover letter, and elevator pitch. Coaches meet with their scholar or scholars each month from September through May at OMD-led Scholar Development Sessions and check in by phone or email at least once a month between sessions. Learn more about coaching today.
Substitute Coaching
Substitute coaching is a great way to get involved with our scholars if you cannot commit to working with one or two scholars for the entire academic year. Substitute coaches attend as many or as few Scholar Development Sessions as they like and work with scholars whose coaches are absent on critical career milestones and program objectives, such as resume, cover letter, or goals work.
“It’s Who You Know” Speed Networking
As the saying goes, it’s all about who you know. OMD’s “It’s Who You Know” Speed Networking brings together hundreds of industry leaders in healthcare, financial services, education, government, and philanthropy to help OMD Scholars sharpen their networking skills and build personal and professional networks. Spend an evening networking with OMD Scholars helping them develop networking skills that they will use for a lifetime.
Career Readiness Experiences
Work with OMD staff to recruit a team from your company to work with scholars individually or in small groups to review resumes, practice interviewing skills, review applications to transfer to four-year universities, participate in a career panel or host of shadow day at your workplace.
