“You will get the support you need and so much more.”

Yolanda was studying Arts, A/V Technology & Communications at Kennedy-King College when she learned of One Million Degrees. She was drawn to the program because she saw “an opportunity to develop professionally as well as personally,” in addition to the financial assistance that she needed to stay in school.

As a scholar, she took advantage of all the program had to offer. She attended events and workshops, her favorite being the Etiquette of Business Dining at the Standard Club. She participated in clubs and organizations, and joined the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society. With the help of her coach, she developed her resume and practiced her interview skills; without OMD, Yolanda says she never would have been “confident enough to interview with employers and actually get the position that [she] interviewed for.”

Today, Yolanda works under the Executive Director of The Westside Institute of Science and Education. She graduated from Kennedy-King College in 2016 and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at Roosevelt University; afterwards, she plans to earn a Master’s Degree in Psychology.
