"OMD not only helped me financially; OMD welcomed me into a community, and it is that community that allowed me to thrive."

Maria became an OMD Scholar while attending Truman College. While raising two children and working nights to support her family, Maria embraced the rigorous standards of OMD as well as the demands of her studies. She graduated from Truman College as Valedictorian in 2009 and continued her education at University of Illinois-Chicago, earning her bachelor’s degree in criminology, law, and justice in 2012. Maria joined the Chicago Police Department (CPD) shortly after graduation and recently celebrated her four-year anniversary as a Police Officer for CPD.

Maria inspired all when sharing her story at the 2016 Corporate Leaders Breakfast, reminding us how important it is to support community college scholars who face seemingly insurmountable obstacles, but have the determination to succeed.
